The Secret to Wading Through Piles of Car Insurance Companies to Find the One That's Right For You

Do you know what the real challenge is to shopping for car insurance? No, it's not finding a company that's going to give you a price you can afford. There's enough competition out there that that should be easy. It's not even finding one with a decent reputation that isn't going to leave you grinding your teeth if you have to file car insurance claims. It's finding the one that's going to do all of that and still be the best fit for you.

It's easy to assume that one car insurance company is the same as another. After all, insurance is insurance-isn't it? Not necessarily. Yes, most insurance companies are going to cover your car's damages if you happen to be in an accident. That' not what you want to look for when you're making your decision. You also want to consider:

1)Their customer service. Remember, if you've been in an accident you're going to be upset. You're going to be frazzled. What you're not going to be is in the mood to deal with an inexperienced or belligerent customer service agent. The quality of the service you receive when you're shopping for insurance is a fairly accurate representation of the kind of service you can expect when you're filing a claim, so make sure you can live with it!

2)Where are they licensed? Not every car insurance company is licensed to do business in every state, and when you're plunking down your hard earned money for insurance coverage you want to know that your state's insurance department (or bureau of insurance, or whatever they're calling themselves these days) is going to be standing behind you if you have questions or concerns.

3)How financially stable are they? The last thing you want to do is invest your money in a car insurance provider that's going to go out of business right around the time you file a claim, leaving you holding the bag on repairs that no other car insurance company will touch with a ten foot pole. Don't take their word for it; you can check with A.M. Best, Fitch, Moody's and Standard and Poor's to find out your insurance company's financial rating.

4)What kind of reputation do they have? There are many, many car insurance companies that will happily take care of your insurance claims without blinking an eye, but there are some that will put you through the wringer before they'll pay out a cent-and if there's a loophole, you'd better believe they're going to find it! The good news is, with the number of consumer reporting agencies currently doing business on the web it's really easy to find out who's doing it right and who shouldn't be doing it at all, giving you a best odds chance of finding a provider that's going to give you sterling customer service and fast, easy claims processing instead of one that's going to leave you with a migraine and an empty checking account.
